Adult Life
In 1948 Medgar Evers enrolled at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. During college Evers was in a wide variety of sports and activities. He played football, ran track and he was junior class president. On December 24, 1951 Evers married a former classmate named Myrlie Beasley. They eventually had three children and got his bachelors degree the next year.
Medgar Evers died in the morning of June 12, 1963. Evers was returning home from an NAACP meeting. He pulled into his driveway and when he got out of his car he was shot in the back by a Enfeild 1917 rifle. The bullet ricocheted into his home and he crawled 30 feet then he collapsed and died at a hospital 1 hour later. The killer was a KKK member.
